— Amazon.com Inc. is opening its first bookstore in Sacramento this year, the second bookstore it plans to open.
The California-based online retailer is adding four more locations in Sacramento, including one near the Sacramento County Fairgrounds, on the former site of the Sacramento Municipal Auditorium and the Sacramento State University.
The Sacramento City Council is also expected to vote this week on an amendment to allow Amazon to open a second bookstore in downtown Sacramento.
The Sacramento location, called the Sacramento Campus Bookstore, will have 50,000 square feet of space, including three floor-to-ceiling book shelves.
The building will have space for 50,200 books.
Amazon will also expand the number of online booksellers in the area, with three more locations to open by 2020.
The company has been planning to open five new stores in the region this year.
The company also plans to expand online bookselling to Sacramento.
